Monarchs: The History and Science Behind the Monarch Craze

The Book Stall is happy to support The Friends of the Green Bay Trail and The Glencoe Public Library as they present this virtual program on monarch butterflies. Some of the titles speaker Kim White recommends are listed below!

We have all heard the battle cry, ‘Plant Milkweed for Monarchs!’ Will just planting milkweed really fix the problem of the declining population of monarchs in the midwest? What else can we do to help this iconic insect? Presented by naturalist and educator Kim White, with cameo appearances by monarch butterflies and/or caterpillars.

About the presenter: Kim White has had a lifelong interest in the natural world. She spent 19 years associated with Brookfield Zoo’s Education Department as both a volunteer and employee teaching school groups. She is a master naturalist, a co-steward for the DuPage County Forest Preserve, education coordinator for the DuPage Monarch Project, and avid gardener for both food production and habitat creation. Her summers are spent growing milkweed for the monarch butterflies she raises from eggs and releases.
